Welcome to the Faculty of Computing, Health and Science Learning Adviser’s Website. The main objective of learning advising is to assist and support students to improve their learning. Learning support creates opportunities for students to become independent and effective learners, develop the skills required to succeed at university and ultimately achieve their academic goals.
How can the learning adviser assist students?
The Learning Adviser assists students to develop appropriate and effective approaches to:
- Learning
- Reading, researching and note-taking
- Writing
- Exam preparation
- Working in small groups
- Time management
- Seeking and receiving feedback
More specifically, the learning adviser can assist students with:
- Understanding and planning assignments
- Structuring and writing assignments
- English language skills
- Research and referencing skills
- Time and study management
- Critical thinking and analytical skills
- Oral presentations
- General study concerns
Activities and workshops
The learning adviser helps students build on their learning, research and academic skills through the following activities and workshops:
- Individual and small group consultations
- Workshops open to all students enrolled in the faculty
- Workshops / guest lectures conducted either as a part of a unit or as additional sessions
- Orientation / Academic Preparation sessions for particular courses
- Online support for external students
- Resources available via this website
The learning adviser also works with individual staff and conducts research to facilitate improvements in teaching and learning at the unit and course levels.
