Peer Tutoring @ ECU - STEP UP!
The
Faculty of Computing, Health and Science program “Peer
Tutoring @ ECU - STEP UP!” provides a valuable
community service program of Peer Tutoring by high achieving
university students to teachers and students at schools surrounding
the Joondalup and Mt Lawley campuses of Edith Cowan University.
This is a free service to schools and is supported financially by the Faculty of Computing, Health and Science and the Government of Western Australia - Department of Commerce.
ECU Students participating in this community service program
commit themselves to assist school teachers in the classroom
for regular weekly sessions throughout the school year (1
semester minimum).
They assist the teachers with many activities of the classroom
and interact with the school students, increasing their own
communication skills and confidence as well as sharing insights
about university life and studies which may be beneficial
and relevant to school students as they consider their own
future educational directions.

TEE Revision Sessions
The School of Engineering within the Faculty of Computing Health and Science presents TEE revision sessions to Year 12 students studying specific TEE science subjects, currently Physics and Applicable Mathematics only. The first TEE Revision Session was run in 2007 for Physics. Senior teachers and TEE markers present the sessions covering problem solving skills, handy exam hints and demonstrations relevant to each subject. The students are provided with a booklet of worked examples and other helpful information.
The TEE revision sessions are FREE to all participants and are run during the third term school holidays. In 2009 the TEE Revision @ECU week will be Monday 28th September to Friday 2nd October. It is planned to expand the TEE revision program to include Calculus, Chemistry and Human Biology.
Further information will be provided to school teachers and on this webpage closer to these dates.

The ECU Science Experience
The
ECU Science Experience (previously known as SIEMENS Science
Experience) is an annual event held at university campuses
all over Australia. High school students about to enter
Year 10 spend three days at ECU Joondalup in early January,
enjoying loads of action-packed science activities run by
ECU staff and students.
The program's aim is to encourage teenagers to enjoy and pursue science and technology subjects in upper school, and ultimately at a tertiary level at ECU.
For additional information and for enrolments, please visit the website www.scienceexperience.com.au or e-mail the ECU Science Experience Director Nardia Bordas at n.bordas@ecu.edu.au .
Mathematical Problem Solving Program for Able and Gifted School Students
Edith Cowan University offers year-long programs for mathematically able and gifted school students. The classes are held after school during term time throughout the year on the Mount Lawley campus of the University.
The programs are for students aged 10 to 15, though exceptional students of a younger age can apply. For students aged 13 to 15 the programs are linked to the Mathematics Challenge for Young Australians, a national program of the Australian Mathematics Trust.
The Edith Cowan University Mathematics Problem Solving Program,
directed by Norm Hoffman, has been running since 1992.

LabRats
LabRats is an annual on campus event designed to showcase the facilities and courses of the Faculty of Computing, Health and Science on the Joondalup Campus. LabRats is run during the mid-semester break of semester 2.
Heads of Science departments of schools in the northern corridor are invited to bring a class size group of year 10 or 11 students on campus for a full day of science lectures and laboratory workshops.
The aim of the program is to encourage students to pursue science in upper school and then to continue with tertiary science courses and careers. By showcasing the staff, facilities and courses here at ECU Joondalup we are encouraging students to consider ECU as an institution they could chose.
